Die seltsamen Visionen einer Einzelgängerin – Eddie M. Angerhuber und ihre Experimente mit der Phantastik

My next publication is already available for order. It is one that holds a special place for me, for it consists of an essay I wrote directly in German. I feel this is a real milestone in my translingual journeys, which I will be documenting in my next entry on CL.

I had the honour of preparing "Die seltsamen Visionen einer Einzelgängerin – Eddie M. Angerhuber und ihre Experimente mit der Phantastik" ("The Strange Visions of a Loner Eddie M. Angerhuber and Her Experiments with the Fantastic") for the jubilee issue of Arcana. As I've mentioned in a recent post, Arcana is the leading German journal on classical literature of the fantastic. The essay, revised by Robert N. Bloch (whom I had the pleasure of recently introducing on Confusio Linguarum to the English-speaking readers), deals with Eddie M. Angerhuber's experimental approach to writing in sci-fi, weird and horror fiction sub-genres and the characteristics that connect her to classical and modern masters of weird fiction. I consider this to be one of the better essays I wrote so far.

This special 25th issue of Arcana is accompanied by a full-colour cover by Björn Ian Craig. Apart from my 4,100-word essay, the issue contains a lesser-known classic of Austrian ghost fiction:  "Die Dame mit dem Brokatmuff" by Adolph Johannes Fischers from 1932.

Copies of the magazine are available from Verlag Lindenstruth's website:

  1. This sounds amazing! Would you be willing to post a link to a version in English?

  2. Many thanks for the question, Michael. I am afraid so far this essay exists only in German. I might consider translating this into English at some point in the future. Time will tell.
Most probably next month I will be posting a shorter piece on Angerhuber from some material I haven’t used for the Arcana essay. I hope for now this will do some justice to the readers who will not be able to read the essay in German.
